Research on the Development of Guidelines for Effective Virtual Reality Cognitive Rehabilitation System Development and Clinical Application

Abstract

|
Introduction: The purpose of this study is to provide guidelines for system development for researchers and developers who develop virtual reality cognitive rehabilitation systems. This is to improve the quality of the virtual reality cognitive rehabilitation system by presenting guideline items through systematic research, to minimize errors in the R&D process, and to guide effective system selection and successful application in the clinical field. Method: 11 experts with clinical experience or research on virtual reality rehabilitation system or cognitive rehabilitation participated as an expert group for deriving guideline items. Essential items were derived by examining the literature related to virtual reality cognitive rehabilitation system, analyzing existing products, and analyzing occupational therapy theory and computer-based cognitive rehabilitation system guidelines related to virtual reality cognitive rehabilitation. Afterwards, through the expert group, the applicability of the items was evaluated twice, and 20 essential items for the final virtual reality cognitive rehabilitation system were derived.
Result: The virtual reality cognitive rehabilitation system should lead the patient’s active participation, motivation, interest, and commitment, and present realistic contents by reproducing the real situation in the treatment room. In terms of usability, anyone should be able to use it easily and it have to provide useful information.
